A Sweet Spot in our Home: Baby Girl’s Nursery

C3M-94

As soon as I found out we were having a girl, I knew I wanted to create a whimsical and feminine room. The Sheepish Collection by Gingiber for The Land of Nod was the very first thing I chose. {I’d fallen in love since the first time I was pregnant.} Some of my favorite details are the world map — a random Home Goods find, the Good Hare Day mirror and the little unicorn, as well as some personal touches like dried flowers from the baby shower on her nightstand and the painting my sister made {which was designed after the baby shower invitations}. I also wanted to ensure that our pup, Penelope, always feels like she has a place in our family, so I made sure the room had a spot for her too. While I’m still hoping to get a Horrible Adorable in there somewhere, I love the serene setting we’ve created. {A big thank you to the Mr. who painstakingly stenciled the walls as I was too pregnant to do so}. While I look forward to watching her grow up and develop her own taste and personality, I hope that one day she’ll look back and love her little nursery as much as I do.

Thank you to our friend and photographer, Lulu {Photos by Lulu}, for photographing her room for us!

POM Sunday

Happy Monday!

This past weekend I had the opportunity to bake for the pom pom + mobile making workshop by Dee Haim at Wynwood Letterpress. We thought it’d be fun to have some themed treats, so I made {baked} glazed funfetti donuts, cake batter cheesecake dip with graham crackers, gluten-free coconut chocolate chip cookies {not themed but too good not to make} and white peach sangria. To add an extra {themed} touch, I made pom pom picks for the snacks. I was beyond thrilled that everyone seemed to like them and was happy to have the opportunity to attend the workshop.

You should definitely be following the pom queen herself and be sure to swing by Wynwood Letterpress – it’s the cutest shop! {They made my baby showers invitations!}

P.S. Making a cute pom is harder than it looks!

good enough

I really enjoy visiting fashion/style blogs and checking out the clothes and accessories. I love being inspired by other women and their take on style, and though I don’t take my blog all that seriously and simply use it as a fun, creative outlet, sometimes I can’t help but look at other blogs and feel inferior.  I am sometimes left feelingnot good enough. Ugly if only thoughts pop into my head…If only I had more money for clothes. If only I was thinner. If only I was prettier. If only I had her closet. I find it difficult some days to not compare myself to others.

Now that I’m a mom to a little girl, I think of how awful I would feel if she ever doubted her worth and was plagued with those if only thoughts. It would break my heart. I now refuse to give in to them, knowing I need to set a good example for her as she grows up. I want her to know that she doesn’t need to compare herself to anyone EVER, and that she is – just by being herself – good enough.

On that note, I’ll be starting my outfit posts again and having fun sharing my style point of view.

Thank you, my sweet little Caroline, for forcing me out of my bad habits and giving me a reason to be better.

White Peach Sangria

I’m not much of a drinker but after trying the white peach sangria at Brio a few weeks ago, I knew I needed to figure out how to make it at home. I took a look back at their menu and did a little bit online research along with some tweaking and settled on this recipe. It’s light and refreshing, making it perfect for summer. While making it a day in advance is ideal for flavor, it can easily be thrown together for an impromptu barbecue or get-together with friends and still hit the spot! I look forward to getting creative and making new incarnations of this new favorite.

New Body, New Swimwear

Getting used to my body after the baby has not been easy. During the last couple months of pregnancy, my feet and legs got really swollen so shedding those first few pounds in the weeks following our baby girl’s birth was easy. I gained 42 lbs total but the first 20-25 lbs melted right off as the swelling went down. It’s the last 15 that are sticking around. With summer right around the corner – and let’s face it, here in Miami there’s already beach weather – I wanted to find swimsuits that offered a bit more coverage but still had a fun feel to them, because a few extra pounds are not going to stand between me and a delicious day by the ocean or pool with the Mr. and our little one.

Here are a few of my favorites…

  4. Paper Dolls Contrast Stripe Swimsuit (under $50!)

{New Mom} Mother’s Day Gift Guide

After several weeks away from the computer, I’m back on the blog. I’ve been enjoying time with the newest addition to our family… our sweet Caroline Rae. She surprised us and arrived about 2 & 1/2 weeks ahead of her due date. She was born weighing 7lbs 1oz, measuring 19″ long and with a full head of hair. All bias aside, she’s pretty much the cutest thing ever. I love her so much it hurts. I can feel my heart breaking into a million tiny pieces every time I look at her. More on her in future posts {you can sneak a few peeks of her on Instagram}. For now, here’s a Mother’s Day Gift Guide for new moms.

mothersday

  1. Michael Kors Slim Runway Watch | Whether you’re keeping track of feedings, diaper changes or sleep patterns, it’s crazy how often you need to be aware of what time it is as a new mom. Might as well do it in style!
  2. KRZA by Krystle Mommy & Me Tie Side Headband in Leopard Print | How cute are these headbands? I actually already ordered a set for Caroline and me, and I can’t wait to receive them and try them on!
  3. Catbird Heart Stack Ring {personalized!} | I’m a big fan of Catbird jewelry, and these are no exception. I love the idea of wearing Caroline’s initials or middle name. The most sentimental gift on this list, these are a great way for any mom to represent her kiddos.
  4. Kate Spade Eat Cake for Breakfast Mug | With late nights and early morning feedings part of my new routine, I’ve found that a cup of coffee as the sun is coming up – and as I watch my little one drift off into blissful milk-induced sleep – has become an especially sacred part of my day. This mug just makes it that much better.
  5. Coach Campus Backpack | Technically this is a men’s item, but who cares?! If you’re like me, once you go back to work, you’re going to have to take a breast pump, bottles, along with all the other items you’d normally carry, like maybe a wallet, notebook, laptop, make up, etc. This bag has a good size, is easy to carry and looks so stylish! {I know they sell pumps already set up with a bag, but this is way better looking!}
  6. Blow Outs | Treat the mom{s} in your life to a good hair day. It’s a quick way for her to see a glimpse of her old self again. It feels good as a new mom to have that hour to yourself and walk out with pretty hair that doesn’t have spit-up in it…yet. If you live in Miami, you can get check out Blow N Dry Lounge or HSI Professional Hair Bar. Both offer single blow outs or package deals. I’ve been to Blow N Dry twice and have loved my hair {thanks to Milagros and Paola}. Although I haven’t tried HSI, I’ve heard good things about them too.
  7. Steve Madden BGemmaa Bucket Bag | There’s not really a mommy-related reason to this bag. It just looks good, which is as good a reason as any for a new mom to own it!

So tell me, what are you getting for the mom in your life? …or if you’re a new mom too, what’s on your wish list?
